Naby Keita from Werder Bremen injured: Bundesliga start questionable

Werder Bremen’s star new signing Naby Keita has sustained an adductor muscular injury. The 28-year-old will be out for “several weeks”, the Bundesliga club said on Monday. You have to “assume that Naby won’t be available to us on the first few days of the game,” said coach Ole Werner. Keita was injured while warming up before the friendly against the regional league team VfB Oldenburg (3:1).

Werner: “It’s extremely bitter”

At first, Keita himself and head coach Ole Werner assumed that the injury would be minor. “It’s extremely bitter for Naby and for us as a team,” said Werner. “We will now do everything to ensure that Naby gets fit again as quickly as possible.” Keita should still go to the Bremen training camp in the Zillertal. “We have optimal conditions there for his rehabilitation, and he can also integrate further into the team there,” said Werner.

Keita moved to the Weser from England’s Liverpool FC on a free transfer for the new season. The midfielder had won the Champions League and the English championship under coach Jürgen Klopp. Due to numerous injuries, however, he never made the leap to become a regular player at the world club.
