The city of Murcia will become this September the headquarters of the Spanish Basketball Super Cup. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Unicaja and UCAM Murcia, the latter as host, will compete in a tournament that will come to the Region of Murcia for the first time.
The competition, whose confirmation was advanced on his Twitter account by Fernando López Miras, president of the Region of Murcia, It will be held on September 16 and 17 at the Palacio de los Deportes. Already in recent days some work was being carried out on the facility to adapt it to the requirements of the ACB, which since last June has been studying the Murcian candidacy, finally elected.
“We will host the Spanish Basketball Super Cup for the first time,” wrote López Miras on their social networks, announcing news that has not been confirmed even by the ACB.
The decision of the Association of Basketball Clubs (ACB), organizer of this competition, to take the tournament to unusual locations has made the Region of Murcia gain options to be the chosen venue, which has finally ended up happening. As this newsroom already published in June, members of the ACB itself had been viewing the Palacio de los Deportes facilities while waiting for both the Community and the Murcia City Council to take the step of presenting all the necessary documentation to organize said event.
Finally, the ACB has ended up giving the OK to the Murcian option, which will make UCAM Murcia can participate in the tournament as host. The other three teams that will compete will be the Unicaja Malaga, as champion of the Copa del Rey; and the two greats of the sport of the basket in Spain: the Real Madridwho is the current league champion and also of the Super Cup, and the Barçawho lifted the last title after winning the white team in the play-off final.
