THE Mexican team Baseball won the gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games 2023 due to the cancellation of the match against Cuba for the final. The fight did not take place due to heavy rain, which meant that the “Tri” retained the gold prize. The decision is due to what the regulation says: “When a game is suspended due to bad weather, you have to wait an hour and a half to resume it, otherwise it will be canceled and the best player will win.”.
The rain hasn’t stopped, so the right conditions have not been given for the referees to review the field. After more than an hour of waiting, a meeting was held which was attended by the commissioner and members of both teams.
Next the best way to define the gold medal winner was taken. The rule states that it must be delivered to the team with the best record of the whole competition, which in this case was in favor of Mexico, with a 6-1, while Cuba had a 4-2.
The decision was communicated to the public, after almost two hours of waiting. Mexican fans celebrated the decision, while Cubans protested, as they expected the match to take place. As additional information, there was no possibility to reschedule the match for another day, since both teams already have flights back to their home country.
It should be noted that this distinction of the most precious metal in the king of sports is the first in the history of Mexico in the discipline, within the Central Americans. Furthermore, the paten in the diamond joins the remaining 70 of the Mexican delegation, which already have a total of 185 metals.
