Medvedev Overcomes Setback to Advance in Wimbledon; Alcaraz and Tsitsipas Also Progress

The game started with a setback for Daniil Medvedev, who lost his first set of the tournament against Marton Fucsovics. The Hungarian played cleverly and made an early break (2:1), which he took to make it 6:4.

Medvedev coped better as a result and used his only break opportunity in the second round, which ultimately gave him the equalizer.

The match remained tight, but the Russian broke Fucsovics’ service again early (1-0) and thus had the decisive advantage on his side.

Alcaraz has to work hard against Jarry

Carlos Alcaraz had to solve a tricky task in only the 14th grass match of his career. Opponent Nicolás Jarry, 28th in the world rankings, currently higher than ever, bravely defied the Spaniard.

After losing set one to a break, the Chilean pulled away 3-0 in the second. Alcaraz was impressed but came back after eight games (4-4). Nevertheless: In the tie-break Jarry was on the trigger again and kept the upper hand with 8:6.

It smelled like a big surprise on Center Court before Alcaraz shifted up a gear. The US Open champion didn’t allow his opponent a breakball in the third set and had the better end 6: 3.

It was impressive how Jarry kept looking for his chance – and got it. The 27-year-old took a 3-0 lead in the fourth set. Duplicate events: Alcaraz hit back again and later equalized to make it 4-4.

In the eleventh game, the industry leader made the decision and broke the brave Jarry to 6:5. With his own serve, Alcaraz made it into the round of 16 after 3:56 hours. “The key is to always believe in it and keep your focus,” explained the 20-year-old in the winner’s interview.

Tsitsipas in three sentences this time

Stefanos Tsitsipas was well recovered after his more than four-hour crime thriller against Andy Murray and less than 24 hours later beat Laslo Djere from Serbia 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 4.

It was anything but an easy walk for the Greek, who wobbled, especially in the second set.

Djere was already leading 3-1, but gave up the lead. In the tie-break it was Tsitsipas who just barely got the upper hand. After two hours and eleven minutes, the 24-year-old had the round of 16 ticket in his hand.
