Mayor of San Germán Donates $20,000 to Atléticos Basketball Team for Championship Pursuit

The mayor of the City of San Germán, Virgilio Olivera Olivera, gave a donation of $20,000 to the Atléticos team of the National Superior Basketball (BSN).

“During the extraordinary basketball game with the Cangrejeros de Santurce, which we won and gave us a pass to the semifinal series, we gave our BSN team a donation of $20,000 to continue supporting them. Now we have our sights set on this year’s championship, because the Atléticos de San Germán will never give up,” said the mayor.

Olivera Olivera, meanwhile, said that “tonight we will face (in the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum, in Bayamón), again, the Bayamón Vaqueros, so we will go after what belongs to us, that is, this year’s championship ” .

“We only wish the best to Eddie Casiano, to the work group and, of course, to all the players of the San Germán Athletics (‘El Monstruo Naranjado’)”, he added.

A close match was the one that took place on Friday night at the Arquelio Torres Coliseum in San Germán where the Santurce Cangrejeros arrived to face the Atléticos for a pass to the quarterfinals of the National Superior Basketball (BSN).

The first half was for the Athletics who won 41-39, dominating the beginning of the game.

However, although San Germán made a breakthrough in the third set, the Cangrejeros responded and both teams scored 18 points in the set to play the last 10 minutes with a minimal advantage for the locals.

In the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, Emmanuel Andújar scored 8 of the first 10 points for the Santurce team. However, in the last minutes of the game the reinforcement of San Germán, Nate Mason scored 9 points to keep the Athletics ahead.

A basket from center Jorge Brian Díaz sealed the game by increasing San Germán’s lead by five points with about 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Atléticos will meet again against the Vaqueros de Bayamón in what will be the rematch of last year’s final, this time in the semifinal.

The game between the Athletics and the Cowboys will be today, Sunday.
