Madagascar Takes Home Gold and Bronze at Continental Junior Summit

Madagascar snatched a gold medal, signed Laura Rasoanaivo and two bronze during the first day of the continental junior summit yesterday, at the Mahamasina Sports Palace.

Untouchable. The reigning junior African champion, Aina Laura Rasoanaivo Razafy confirms her supremacy. The world number 2 junior saves the country’s honor by keeping her continental scare in the -70kg category. Exempted in the second round, the gold medalist of the Mauritius Games beat the Algerian Dyhia Benchallal in the semi-final before winning the final by ippon the Egyptian Farida Magdy. Laura thus adds one more gold to her prize list after the six winners in March and April at the Open in Tunisia, Algiers and Luanda. The girls shone yesterday at the sports palace in Mahamasina during the first day of the African championship dedicated to juniors. Madagascar snatched two more bronze medals. The first signed Natacha Emiliame Razafindrakalo in the -48kg category. Tacha defeated the Algerian Yasmine Hadi before losing in the semi-final against the Angolan Vania Gabriel. The second was the work of Miora Rasoanaivo, engaged in the over 78kg category. She folded in the first fight in front of the Senegalese Yacine Djiba. Drafted, Miora defeated the Algerian Razene Yasmine Yousfi in the bronze final.

Early elimination

Three other fighters from the Big Island failed in the bronze final. Idealisoa Miangalihanta Ramorasata at -52kg did not make the weight against the Senegalese Diodio Sonko. She dismissed the Egyptian Sohalla from the start, then bowed to the Cameroonian Marie Céline Baba. Idealisoa went on to defeat Burundian Julienne Uwimana. In the -78kg, Sarah Brillante Randrianandrasana just missed the last step for the podium, beaten by the Moroccan Jihane El Houmate. Drafted in the -70kg category, Jocyah Niando Thierry lost to Algerian Kenyan Mary Njeri after her defeat against Egyptian Fahida Magdy. Three others were eliminated from the start, namely Andriantahina Maeva Rakotomihanta (57kg), Safidiniaina Marcella Ramiandrisoa and Heriniaina Zliva Ralitera at 63kg. Among the boys, the bronze medalist at the 2022 African championship, Lova Mahaisoa Randrianasolo at 73kg misses the bronze, beaten by the Angolan Domingos after his defeat against the Egyptian Ammar Abohashim in the first fight and his victory against the Cameroonian Enzy Kom Teddy in repechage. Eight other fighters lost in the first round namely Hugues Emile Randrianandrainy and Flavien Raveloson Andriantsoa at 60kg, Mirado Andriamifehy and Dubon Michel Freddy Razafimandimby -66kg, Rickey Jayson Said -81kg, Roberto Razakandrandria -90kg, Heroll’s Brian Ranaivomanantsoa -100kg and Michel Nasandratriniaina Tafita over 100kg. The juniors will play the team fights this Friday.
