Luis Suárez, the former Barça player and football legend, dies

The Spanish footballer Luis Suarez Miramontesformer Barça player, soccer legend and Ballon d’Or player, died this Sunday in Milan 88 years old, as announced by Inter Milan, the club for which he played and trained for years.

Seven seasons with Blaugrana

His career began at Deportivo de La Coruña in 1953, although a year later he signed for Barça, where he stayed for seven seasons in which he won two league titles, among other various awards such as two Spanish Cups .

In 1957 he made his debut with the national team at the Santiago Bernabeu and was one of the protagonists of the memorable triumph of the 1964 European Championship.

The Ballon d’Or arrived in 1960, wearing the Blaugrana shirt, winning the vote in Ferenk Puskás. His streak would continue, since in the following edition he finished second.

‘The architect’, as Alfredo Di Stefano called him, was transferred in 1961 to Inter Milan – the first Spaniard to join the Italian club – signed by their then coach, the Argentine Helenio Herrera.
