Leeds United Targeted by American Investment Group Including NBA Star Russell Westbrook

After golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, basketball player Russell Westbrook has joined an American investment group trying to buy English soccer club Leeds United.

The Los Angeles Clippers star announced the news Thursday during the Variety + Sportico Sports & Entertainment Summit event. Westbrook said he invested in 49ers Enterprises, the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers.

It was the owners of the NFL team who bought the majority shares of Leeds in June. They are now trying to 100% acquire the organization that was relegated from the Premier League this year.

So Spieth, Thomas and basketball players Larry Nance Jr. and TJ McConnell all joined forces – and their wallets – to provide the necessary money. According to The Athletic, the sale of Leeds could be done for an amount of $213 million.

Westbrook, who split the 2022-23 season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, agreed to a two-year contract extension this summer for just under $8 million.
