LeBron James Confirms His Return for 21st NBA Season

The star of the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James, confirmed that he will continue playing next season in the NBA, the number 21 of his extraordinary career, after letting it be known last May that he could retire.

“The day I can’t give it my all, I’ll be finished. Luckily for you, that day is not today,” James said with a smile, while he was applauded by those attending the gala at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, where the ESPY Awards were presented, which are awarded by the sports network ESPN.

LeBron, one of the best basketball players in history and winner of four NBA champion rings, on May 22 hinted that he was considering retiring after the resounding elimination of the Los Angeles Lakers against the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs by a global 4-, ESPN noted.

“We’ll see what happens from now on. Don’t know. I have a lot to think about, to be honest, about whether to continue with basketball,” James said at the press conference after the last game against Denver, in which he had 40 points and 10 rebounds without resting for a single minute.

James, 38, has two more seasons on his contract with the Lakers but in the second he has an option to become a free agent. The player has always declared his intention to continue in the league until he plays with his son Bronny, who can be selected in the 2024 Draft.

Last night, James received the ESPY award for becoming the NBA’s all-time leading scorer last season, surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record.
