Riedi’s exploit at the Hopman Cup against Rune

Leandro Riedi needed just one hour and seven minutes to beat Holger Rune on Wednesday in Nice.

The Hopman Cup, this competition which brings together men and women in matches between countries with two singles and a mixed double, started on Wednesday in Nice with the meeting between Switzerland and Denmark (2-1).
Céline Naef (WTA 157) opened the fire against Clara Tauson (WTA 89), but the Schwytzoise could not offer a point in her colors by losing 2-6 3-6 after an hour and 24 minutes of play .
The men’s singles that followed brought Leandro Riedi (ATP 160) face to face with Holger Rune (ATP 6), recent quarter-finalist at Wimbledon where he was eliminated by the future winner, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. The Zurich native created a surprise by winning in just one hour and seven minutes 6-4 6-3.
The euphoria was still in late evening when Riedi and Naef got the better of the Danish pair 6-3 7-5.
The next meeting, against the France of Alizé Cornet and Richard Gasquet, will take place on Friday. If they win, Switzerland would qualify for the final.
In the other group, Belgium, Croatia and Spain will compete for first place on Thursday.
