206. This is the number of athletes aged 12 to 17 who will represent the Laurentians at the 57th edition of the Quebec Games to be held in Rimouski from July 21 to 29.

To this number, we must add 48 coaches/accompanying persons and 15 missionaries who will accompany the delegation from the Laurentians region for this unique experience which will bring together 3,500 athletes from 19 delegations from all over Quebec.

The Laurentians delegation will send representatives from our region, which stretches from Boisbriand to Mont-Laurier and includes 27 municipalities, for 18 of the 19 disciplines on the program.

The best of all

To obtain their pass for the Quebec Games, the 200 athletes from the Laurentians delegation actively participated in 19 regional events. Whether they are tournaments, selection camps or regional finals, these various competitions have attracted the participation of 1,000 athletes throughout the territory of the Laurentians. It is therefore the best of them who will represent us at these Games.

Have fun first

The head of the Laurentians delegation Alexandra Gagnon-Tillard believes that the Laurentians athletes will be able to repeat the feat of the last Summer Games which were held in Laval last year and finish in 3rd place in the regional rankings. “It’s not necessarily the same athletes as last year, some disciplines will present different age groups. For example, in baseball, the athletes will be a little younger than last year,” explains Alexandra Gagnon-Tillard.

This situation will not change the main objective of the delegation. “We want young people to benefit 100% from their experience, to be proud of themselves and to achieve their personal goals,” adds the head of delegation.

According to Alexandra Gagnon-Tillard, this attitude would increase the chance that athletes will persevere in the practice of their sport thereafter. “Some will go to the Canada Games,” she adds.

Chances of medals

Among the disciplines where our athletes have a good chance of excelling in individual sports, we find open water swimming, artistic swimming, athletics, golf and mountain biking.

This year, we find sailing among the complementary disciplines, a discipline in which three members of the Sainte-Agathe sailing school will participate; Nicolas Primeau from Lac-Tremblant-Nord, Jules-Thomas Tremblay from Val-David and Louis Albert Dumontier from Sainte-Adèle.

Other athletes from our region include Arielle Bastien and Éloïse Turpin from Sainte-Agathe in volleyball, Renaud Mercure from Val-Morin in basketball and Sierra Jolicoeur from Mont-Tremblant in mountain biking.

Note that archery is the only discipline where our region will not send representatives.

You will be able to follow the performances of the athletes and consult the results, immediately compiled, on the website, Facebook, or Instagram
