Kylian Mbappé’s Controversial Statements Shake up PSG’s Locker Room

The climate within PSG does not seem to be very friendly. The sincere statements made by Kylian Mbappé to France Football magazine caused a climate in the team’s locker room, in addition to irritating the direction of the Parisian club.

In an exclusive interview with the magazine responsible for giving him the award for best French player last season, Mbappé was direct and revealed that being at Paris Saint-Germain does not help him in the fight to be the best in the world and win the Ballon d’Or.

– I think playing for PSG doesn’t help much because it’s a team that divides opinions, a club that divides. So, of course, it attracts gossip, but it doesn’t bother me because I know what I’m doing and how I do it.

The interview went down badly with some of Mbappe’s teammates, who saw the statement as an insult to the club. According to the French newspaper RMC Sport, six players disapproved of his thinking complained about the star. The owner of the club, Al-Khelaïfi, would have considered the speech as a lack of respect for the player.

Last season, Mbappé was Ligue 1’s top scorer with 29 goals and the second best scorer in Europe, behind only Erling Haaland, and yet with a total of 55 goals. Despite his great performance, the French star is not tipped to win the Ballon d’Or and the expectation is that the award will go to Lionel Messi or Erling Haaland.

When asked about his stay in the Paris team, Mbappé broke the conversation and said about his thirst for victory and constant dissatisfaction, even with his personal performance.

— Reasons to believe this is my last season at PSG? It’s very simple, I’m a competitor, when I play it’s to win. And no matter who I play with, no matter the shirt, no matter where, no matter the year, I’m never satisfied with winning – said Mbappé.

Negotiations between Mbappé and PSG are currently stagnant. The current bond ends in June 2024, and the player has no intention of extending it until 2025. In the current scenario, he could sign a pre-contract with any club from January 2024.
