KVC Westerlo Adds Five New Players to Squad for New Season

KVC Westerlo has also started the new season with the second team. De Kemphanen announced on their website that they have added five new players to the squad. They found them at KRC Genk, Standard and KV Mechelen.

“With the fervent followers of our academy teams, the name Zenzo De Boeck may already ring a bell. After all, the 18-year-old goalkeeper played at our club until 2017 before he made the switch to KRC Genk. There he moved on to the core of Jong Genk. We keep our fingers crossed that he can also put a lot of clean sheets to his name here with our Jonge Kemphanen”, says Westerlo.

They also took Raf Smekens away from Jong Genk. “The midfielder, built in 2004, was part of the talented generation of Genkies who managed to make it to the eighth finals in the Youth League last season. In that European campaign, Smekens was noticed with an assist and a goal, among other things. At the professional level, Smekens could count on a short substitution in the Challenger Pro League against Club NXT last season. On his record, there are also 17 matches as a Young Red Devil, with one goal.”

Ex-Standard and KV Mechelen

Candan Baskale was also taken away from Racing Genk. “The last in the line of newcomers coming over from KRC Genk is this Candan Baskale. Just like Raf Smekens, he also got to taste the level of the Youth League, with two raids against the Northern Irish Coleraine FC. With his move to KVC Westerlo, Baskale can now further perfect his rushes in the shirt of our Kemphanen.”

At Standard they saw Atilgan Babacan descend to the Kempen. “The fourth and last newcomer to be spotted during the first training session today was Atilgan Babacan. The 18-year-old flank player comes over from the youth of Standard de Liège. His dribbling and agility have also been praised by Club Brugge for this. ”

Sebastien Zoete was not yet present, but he is also a newcomer. “The 17-year-old Sebastien Zoete was not yet present at the first training, but he did sign an agreement as a new addition to KVC. With his arrival, an extra pillar was brought in for the defensive compartment of our U21s. The 17- year-old defender comes over from KV Mechelen.”
