Carlos Alcaraz does not stop winning admirers both inside and outside tennis before the season to remember that he is starring in. His recent victory at Wimbledon has further boosted the praise received by the world number one, who will defend his title at the next US Open and is already the great benchmark among young players called to mark an era on the circuit.

In the most select racket sport circles, the Spaniard has earned respect even more if possible. The last legend that has been encouraged to speak in very good terms of Carlitos is none other than Jimmy Connors. The American has taken advantage of the loudspeaker that his podcast gives him to dedicate some compliments to the Murcian: it is impossible for them to fall on deaf ears when whoever enacts them has so much cachet in the history of tennis.

In Advantage Connors, the program he has with his son Brett, Jimmy Connors did not hesitate to speak in very good terms about Alcaraz. He did it when his son asked him if the man from El Palmar is the most complete player he has seen at just 20 years old. “He is a hybrid player, because he can play all types of matches. He can be aggressive, he has defense, he is not afraid to advance, he mixes his blows, he can serve and volley… In short, he can do something different, ”the eight-time Grand Slam winner admitted openly.

Connors already places Charly as an example not only among the smallest, but even among the other youthful idols of the ATP. “Kids are looking out for him and maybe even some of the other kids playing on tour should give him a little study and see what it’s taken for him to get to this position at 20 years old. And maybe say, ‘What is he doing that I’m not? Why is he winning Wimbledon and the US Open and I’m not?’” he warned as well.

In fact, the one who was number one in the world in the 70s and also in the early 80s considers that the only one capable of facing Novak Djokovic at the moment is precisely Alcaraz: the Serbian’s strategy of playing at his level and waiting for others to step forward and cause his defeat, as happened in London, seems to him correct. “Because what are you going to do? That he plays until he is 50? If I were in his shoes right now, he’d say, ‘He plays me until you kill me.’ Because there is only one guy who is doing it at the moment, and that is Alcaraz”, declared the winner of an Australian Open, two Wimbledons and five US Opens.
