Jaylen Waddle Credits Tua Tagovailoa for Leading NFL in Receiving Yards

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle was the NFL’s leader in receiving yards last season, and he credits quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with all the credit. In an interview with Houston’s KPRC, the receiver said offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s offense emphasizes wide receivers gaining yards after the catch, and that the QB puts players in the perfect position to do so.

“His ball placement, I think everybody sees it, knowing exactly where he puts the ball so his receivers can not just catch it, but run around with it a lot. That’s what Tua does,” Waddle said.

The connection between the two goes back a long way, as they both played together in College Football at the University of Alabama. “It’s great because Tua is a great guy. We’ve been playing together for years, so it’s always good to be familiar with your quarterback, from the college game to the NFL game. It’s like riding a bicycle. It’s fun. You don’t have to learn the quarterback’s tendencies once you’ve played with him,” Waddle explained.

The numbers prove the evolution, as he rose from 9.8 yards per reception in 2021 to 18.1 yards in 2022. With Tagovailoa, Waddle proved to be one of the most powerful wide receivers in the NFL.
