“The engines have already determined the course twice!”
We saw a seething Jasper Philipsen at the finish in Poligny, even though he managed to secure the green all the way to Paris with his sprint for 4th place.
A little later, after the first emotions had passed and he had gone to pick up his 16th green jersey in this Tour, Philipsen sounded a little less sharp.
“We didn’t get a meter closer. They must have been very strong up front,” is his still evocative answer when asked why they didn’t get to it.
Was it the engines that helped the frontrunners? “I leave that in the middle. It could be.”
One consolation is that Philipsen is now sure of the green. “First the Vosges, because I will have to recover from this stage. After that I can go to Paris with confidence.”
