James Rodriguez bounces back in Brazil

Free after his departure from Olympiakos, the former AS Monaco No. 10 has signed a two-year contract in Sao Paulo.

Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez has signed for Sao Paulo after being released by Olympiakos Piraeus in April, the Brazilian Serie A club announced on Saturday.

The 32-year-old signed a two-year contract, making it his fourth club in as many seasons after joining Everton in 2021 for one season, before being sold to Qatari side Al-Rayyan and joining Olympiakos on a free transfer last season.

By joining São Paulo, Rodriguez joins a tenth professional club in ten different countries since he started his career in Envigado, Colombia in 2006.

Rodriguez played for several top European clubs such as Porto, Monaco and Real Madrid and won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup after scoring six times in the tournament. He won the Champions League twice with Real and La Liga twice, after winning the Europa League with Porto.

Rodriguez was contracted to Real from 2014-20 but was on loan for two years at Bayern Munich between 2017 and 2019, where he won two Bundesliga crowns and the German Cup.
