Jalisco Shines at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023

They came to an end Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 and Mexico endorsed the title in the summer fair, where a new record was also achieved in the harvest of gold medals by adding the number of 145 and a total of 353 medals.

Jalisco did its bit and became the main provider of medals for the country, by participating with 87 athletes, including six soccer players from the men’s team, gold winners.

81.6% of the athletes from Jalisco managed to ascend to the podium for any of the medals in dispute: 37 times were for a gold medal, 29 for silver and 25 for bronze; that is to say, a quarter of the total medals of our country carried the Jalisco seal.

On the other hand, of the 353 medals achieved by Jalisco athletes (145 gold, 108 silver, 100 bronze); 124 were worked by coaches from Jalisco (inside or outside our state), or athletes from other entities who trained throughout the year at Code facilities.

It is important to mention that in disciplines such as artistic swimming where 5 gold medals were achieved, field hockey where 2 gold medals were won, sailing with one gold and triathlon with 4 gold medals, at least one auriazul athlete was present.

Nuria Diosdadoof artistic swimming, was consecrated in all the height in San Salvadorby achieving four golds and two silvers to reach 18 gold medals in her sports career and thus become the highest medal winner for Mexico in its history within the Central American Games.

Figures like Miranda Grana (swimming); Aram Peñaflor (triathlon), and Miriam Rodríguez (badminton), with three golds each, rose as the top medalists among the group of Jalisco in competition.

It is worth mentioning that in this edition, 18 competitors who recently participated in the CONADE 2023 Nationals and who also won medals for the entity, also did so internationally within the Central American Games, contributing 24 medals; among them, Arantxa Cossío and Juan Jesús Gómez (table tennis); Miranda Grana; Elizabeth Nieves, Michelle Quezada, Carlos Quintero and Carlos Quezada shooting; and Fernando Rodríguez, canoeing, among others.

There were 29 countries that, by winning less than one medal in this edition, appeared in the event’s medal table; however, the figures presented only by the auriazules surpass what was achieved by 26 countries. That is to say, with its results, Jalisco could have been placed in the fourth position of the medal table.
