The Aerorise support system, created using 3D printing, ensures comfort, breathability, lightness and resistance. Jack Wolfskin, a leading German company in the outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment sector, has won the international Red Dot Design award for its new 3D Aerorise 40 backpack with innovative 3D-printed Aerorise Carrying System, available this summer .
The award, determined by a jury of more than 50 international experts, was awarded to Jack Wolfskin’s team during the Red Dot Design Awards Gala in Essen on 19 June.

The Red Dot jury said: “The main feature of the 3D Aerorise 40 is the innovative carrying system that combines the most important requirements of a backpack: durability, lightness, comfort and ventilation. The waterproof main compartment features a lockable top pocket while two side pockets offer additional storage.

The backpack, the jury underlined, is also “particularly comfortable to wear”.

4 single padding created with 3D printing thanks to body mapping technology

The 3D Aerorise 40 features four individual pads created with 3D printing thanks to body mapping technology; positioned on the shoulders and in the lumbar area, they adapt to the body and, through their open-pored structure, allow better air circulation, reducing the temperature of the back. The technology, already in use in the sporting goods industry for the creation of high-performance running shoes, is obtained thanks to polymer solutions from Oechsler, a German player in additive manufacturing, and Carbon, a pioneer of 3D printing. Made from lightweight recycled polyamide fabrics, the backpack has a 40-litre capacity.

“Winning the Red Dot Award is the highest accolade we could get for our new Aerorise conveyor system,” said Magdalen Hamel, Category Manager Equipment at Jack Wolfskin. “Thanks to 3D printing, we are able to design for comfort and performance like never before in backpacks. We are continuously developing this technology and are convinced that it will become more and more widespread throughout the Jack Wolfskin equipment line”.

The 3D Aerorise 40 backpack and two other versions with the same carrying system are on sale on the Jack Wolfskin website.
