Indonesian Badminton Player Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari Makes History, Wins 2023 Asian Junior Championships

KOMPAS.com – Indonesian women’s singles badminton player, Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari, made history.

This 17-year-old figure is the first Indonesian women’s singles to win the Badminton Asia Junior Championships or the Asia Junior Championships.

Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari won the 2023 Asian Junior Championships after defeating South Korean player, Kim Min-ji.

In the final at the Amongraga Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, Sunday (16/7/2023), Mutiara won relatively easily with a score of 21-11, 21-17.

This result made Mutiara incised gold ink. She is the first Indonesian women’s singles to climb to the main podium of the Badminton Asia Junior Championships since the tournament, also known as the Asia Junior Championships, was held in 1997.

“It feels great to be able to win two straight games and win this tournament. It feels very extraordinary. This was unexpected considering the results were as expected,” said Mutiara as quoted by Antara.

“From this tournament I came to know that if I want and try I’m sure I can do it.”

It seems that the Amongraga Stadium is a friendly venus for Mutiara. Because this is the player’s second title in the same place.

Previously, Mutiara won the 2022 Indonesia International Series title. At that time, she defeated her senior, Stephanie Widjaja, in a rubber game battle 15-21, 21-10, 22-20.

No wonder Mutiara thanked the people of Yogyakarta. According to him, the 2023 Asian Junior Championship champion is like deja vu.
