Improbable Partners with MLB to Develop Virtual Ballpark for All-Star Game and Fan Engagement

Improbable is developing Major League Baseball’s new virtual ballpark to open during the MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game presented by Corona. MLB’s virtual ballpark, powered by Improbable’s Morpheus technology and developed within the M² network, will offer baseball fans the opportunity to gather and interact in one central location. Designed to provide easy access, the MLB Virtual Ballpark allows baseball fans to connect directly through MLB.com and experience games together using only an internet connection.

“MLB has consistently been a thought leader and pioneer in the use of digital technology to improve fan engagement,” said Lincoln Wallen, CTO of Improbable. “We are thrilled to be working with MLB to bring baseball fans around the world into their own virtual park, nurture their passion for baseball, and celebrate the sport in an authentic way.”

“As we continue to advance and enhance the MLB fan experience through innovative technologies, this new virtual ballpark will become a great proving ground for the league and our fans worldwide,” said Kenny Gersh, MLB Executive Vice President, Media & business development. “By working closely with Improbable, we’ve been able to bring what baseball fans know and love about their unique ballpark experiences into an accessible, virtual world. Not everyone has the opportunity to attend major league games or have a major league ballpark experience. But now we can offer this opportunity to anyone with an internet connection, no matter where they are.”

Herman Narula, Founder and CEO of Improbable, stated, “Sports and culture are increasingly at the forefront of developing compelling uses for virtual worlds and the metaverse because they have both the expertise needed to create compelling experiences and a deep… Understand the expectations and trends of their communities. At Improbable, we are very proud to have developed a virtual ballpark for the MLB, the world’s longest established professional sports league. We also strongly believe that the M² approach to ownership and interoperability will enable even richer experiences and more efficient formats. Brands will be able to create and operate their worlds autonomously and create and sell sophisticated digital assets, while content creators will benefit from the ability to share their creations in different virtual environments.”

MLB’s virtual ballpark will benefit from the industry-leading scaling, bandwidth and rendering provided by Morpheus. Other features include support for social connections between consumers with natural voice chat, baseball-related entertainment, one-click entry from any device via cloud streaming, and expanded interoperability with other metaverses within M².
