I believe in what I do. He heard about the pressure in Baník, the hunger for reinforcements, goalkeepers and Almási

Are you satisfied with how you have built your team for the new season?

I am There were a lot of changes in the squad, we had to react to them in the preparation period. I think it’s settling in quite well, the players are getting used to each other. I feel that everything is going in the right direction, but the league will show how we are doing.

Is the team play progressing as planned?

In the first preliminary matches, it seemed to me that it was settling in too quickly. The team looked good in the game, the results were good. In the last two preparatory matches, however, we did not have particularly high self-confidence, we did not exude lightness, especially going forward. Defensively, we are at a decent level, we don’t make many mistakes, the opponents didn’t create many chances. But we struggled going forward, we worked on that at the end of the preparatory period. I believe we will be ready from the first round.

Ewerton, Filip Kubala and Abdullahi Tanko strengthened the offensive. What do you expect from them?

Ewerton is a player who can create chances and also assert himself. It can be seen that it has great quality. Kubala and Tanko together with Almási and Jirka Klíma should end the event. But cooperation is important not only between the players at the top, but in the whole team.

Will you miss striker Muhamed Tijani, who left for Slavia?

It’s a shame he’s not here, especially with the form he’s been in. On the other hand, we have Almási, who is a typologically similar player. I would say that Laco is better in the end, Tijani excelled more aggressively, in running. However, I believe that Almasi will prepare and be a new asset.

Ladislav Almási was limited by injuries. Is he in good health?

Yeah, he drove the entire training. His health looks good, he has cleared everything. We are glad that he has finally completed all the training. He played enough matches, he had enough workload. He didn’t score a goal, but I believe that he saves his goals for the league.

How many rookies does he currently have on the starting lineup?

It is hard to say. I will give examples: Tomáš Rigo is very good, but he has only been through the second league so far. The same for Tanko, who scored a lot of goals in it. But both were not in the first league, they have to get their hands on it. It will get to them. Whether immediately or during the season, it will depend on our decision.

It’s one thing to move from the second league to the first, and the second is coming to Baník, where the demands and pressure are different than in a number of other clubs. Do you see it that way?

I agree. But my bet is that these players are hungry, they want to make it and they will do their best. I believe that they will be mentally strong, we also looked at that when selecting them. I hope they deal with it. Sure, they come to Baník, they are aware that Baník is a big club with a big fan base. Last season we knew what the pressure was like.

How do you personally handle pressure?

Since I have already done something and I have already been to Baník and experienced something like that, I probably manage everything a little easier. But I feel a great responsibility. It’s annoying when fans yell at you and are unhappy. This is the same in all clubs, of course with the number of fans the expectations and pressure are greater. We have to put the last season behind us and focus on the new one.

You coached the Slovak national team, Sparta, i.e. big teams. Is the miner at a similar level?

Certainly. Look at how many fans come to see us for away games. There are matches when we have an advantage over our opponents in the stands. I feel a lot of responsibility towards the fans rather than pressure.

Do you also feel a sense of obligation that you stayed here after an unsuccessful season? Probably not everywhere or in the past in Baník, the coach would have sustained such results.

Something has moved here. Luděk Mikloško in the position of sports director is a supporter of the fact that he does not want to rotate the coaches and wants to give them more space to realize themselves. That is also why there are currently so many changes in the staff. I feel from the first match that I am under pressure here. Unfortunately, we were unable to follow up on the promising introduction.

Did you not think about resigning during the spring?

No. I’m not a person who runs away from a fight. Some might say that I have no self-confidence. But those who know me know it’s a quality I abound. I’ve always had self-confidence. I believe in what I do. I would never run away from any job.

You have over thirty players in your squad, someone will have to leave, right?

Yes, someone will probably leave. However, it will depend on where he would go and under what conditions. It is necessary for the given player to be able to grow, to be able to play as much as possible. There is still plenty of time for transfers, we also decided that we will start this season with a larger number of players. It took a bit of a toll on us last year, we had a lot of health problems.

Is there a risk that someone you count on to join the team would leave?

You know how it goes in football. There will be two rounds and something may come up. It will come out of nowhere. If someone had said six months ago that Tijani would end up in Slavia, no one would have believed it either. When he didn’t give a few chances, there was a very negative view of him. And in the summer he transferred to Slavia. Nothing can be predicted.

Are you still waiting for midfielder Srdjan Plavšič?

I am not dealing with it at the moment, but internally I wish for his return. Plavša would be a great asset for me, for the cabin, for the fans. You fell in love with him. He went through Sparta and Slavia, the fans don’t like the players from there that much, but he won everyone over with his attitude and how different a player he was. I would definitely like to see him here.

The topic is also who will catch. Will Jiří Letáček or Jakub Markovič be number one?

We don’t even want to specify who is one, two and three. But Lety (Letáček) did a lot for us at the end of last season. When we were at our worst and we were really playing to save, he played his role very well. Even now he is training very well. He will probably start in goal.

In preparation, you honed a system with three stoppers. Did it go as expected?

Most players have had experience with this. It was important to outline principles in both offensive and defensive activities. Defensively, I’m happy with the three stopper system. We didn’t score many goals and I believe we won’t concede much either. On the contrary, we will have to add offensively, in creativity, in the final phase. We want to be variable and switch from the four-back system we have experienced to a three-back and vice versa.

Do you not set specific goals?

If we had finished last season with a stable form and a decent position, then I would say something. But with the way we’ve played the season, it’s hard to set any goals. Especially with so many changes. In any case, I feel from the team that they will not want to experience what they did last season. But a very tough competition awaits us, look at how Jablonec, Boleslav and others strengthened. I’m not even talking about the strength of Slavia, Sparta and Pilsen.
