HSV Bosses Unconcerned with Narrow Defeat, Focused on Serious Injury

When a result is only a minor matter!

The dress rehearsal for the start of the season on Friday against Schalke (8:30 p.m.) was lost 2-1 at Glasgow Rangers.

But in the end, the HSV bosses were not interested in the defeat, which was only narrow in terms of the result. The serious injury to Ludovit Reis (23) shocked Hamburg.

The midfielder injured his shoulder during an action in midfield (57th), was treated on the pitch by HSV doctors, then by Dr. Götz Welsch and physio Andreas Thum carefully led off the field. Reis’ pained face spoke volumes.

With a thick bandage around his injured left shoulder, Reis flew back to Hamburg with the team on a charter plane. In the next few days, more detailed investigations will provide information about the injury.

The Dutchman threatens to drop out for the hot opening game against Schalke. HSV coach Tim Walter (47) on rice’s bad luck: “I didn’t really see it myself. Suddenly Ludo was lying on the ground away from the action.”

Walter offered his nominally best and healthiest team against the Scottish runners-up from the start. Defense chief Sebastian Schonlau (28) and left-back Miro Muheim (25), both of whom are suffering from calf problems, were just sitting in the stands with 46,542 spectators at Ibrox Park.

The new central defender Guilherme Ramos (25) and right-back Ignace van der Brempt (21) celebrated their HSV premiere. Both professionals alternated light and shadow during the game.

Sure, because Ramos was only allowed to train with the team for a few days with full physical effort after a shoulder operation. And after moving from Salzburg, Van der Brempt only had a few units to rehearse Walter’s demanding system.

Goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes (30), who prevented a higher defeat with a few top saves: “Because we played together like this for the first time, the coordination was still missing a bit.” And: “We saw a lot of things that were positive, especially how we countered, designed our game structure with clear actions.”

Hamburg’s No. 1 was less happy about the way the goals came: “It wasn’t as good as the goals came. That was too easy and unfortunately too error-prone. Then we score too easy goals when we have clear possession of the ball.”

After Fashion Sakala’s Rangers goal (38′) and Glasgow captain James Tavernier’s foul penalty (45′), only HSV whirlwind Jean-Luc Dompé (27), who provided a lot of momentum after half-time, was able to make it 1-2 with a wonderful free-kick from 19 meters out.

The deserved defeat in Scotland doesn’t worry Heuer Fernandes for the league opener: “We will be there on Friday and well prepared. We know it’s important to get the season off to a good start on Matchday 1.”

And the coach remains calm despite the defeat at Rangers: “Friendlies are friendlies. Starting next week, Friday is what counts. I find it difficult to make any predictions. But we will definitely be hot on Friday and are really looking forward to our fans and the atmosphere in the Volkspark.”

HSV: Heuer Fernandes (46 Raab) – van der Brempt (74 Oliveira), Ramos, Hadzikadunic (46 Ambrosius), Heyer – Meffert (88 Megeed) – Reis (59 Krahn), Pherai (46 Benes) – Königsdörffer (46 Jatta), Glatzel (69) Nemeth), Öztunali (46 Dompé).
