Among the vast array of ways you can attack the basket in NBA 2K23, very few challenge your mastery of game mechanics and knowledge of positioning more than the always fun and flashy Alley-Oops. But how exactly can you execute them? That said, and so that you can add another move to your arsenal on the pitch, here’s how to run a flawless alley in NBA 2K23.

NBA 2K23 alley guide

You can perform all kinds of alley-oops in NBA 2K23 by first pressing Triangle/Y twice quickly while one of your teammates dives for the basket, which will cause you to call the play and pass the lob. Once the pass has been made, you can alley-oop by pressing Square/X or tilting the Right Analog-stick when the player is about to make contact with the ball.

To make the Alley-Oops easier to perform, we recommend calling a screen from your Center or Shooting Guard, as after performing this, they will in most cases head to the edge, thus opening up the possibility for an Alley-Oops. You can request a screen in NBA 2K23 by pressing L1/LB while in possession of the ball.

To recap, here’s how to perform an alley-oop in NBA 2K23:

Get the ball. Make sure one of your teammates is diving towards the (ideally unmarked) basket. Press △ or Y twice to call alley-oop. Press ▢ or X at the right moment when the command flashes on the screen to finish the alley.

Importantly, while executed perfectly, the alley-oop can be regarded as a guaranteed 2-point play, pressing its input without a teammate making the swing will cause you to squander possession and execute a turnover. On the other hand, performing it while your receiver is well-marked or pressing Square/X at the wrong time will cause the pass to be blocked and your receiver to miss the ball or field goal, respectively.
