Houston Astros Dominate with Eight Home Runs in 17-4 Win over Tampa Bay Rays

In a game punctuated by eight home runs, including five by the Astros, Houston earned a batting practice in a 17-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

The Astros notably had three straight three-run innings before following up with a five-run inning.

Houston totaled 18 hits in that one-sided game. The 17 points are a season high. At the end of June, the Astros had home plate 14 times against the St. Louis Cards.

Houston notably hit three homers in the seventh inning against catcher Rene Pinto brought in relief when the game was out of reach for a long time. At Pinto’s expense, Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve stretched their arms for a long ball each.

Ironically, the Rays replaced Pinto in the eighth inning with professional reliever Jake Diekman, who in turn got roughed up.

Hunter Brown (7-7) pitched six innings for the win. As for Taj Bradley, he pitched only 3.1 innings and suffered his seventh loss in 12 decisions.

Yainer Diaz and Jose Abreu also homered for the Astros, who also got four RBIs from Jeremy Peña. Pena notably hit a double with the bases loaded. Chas McCormick hit a two-run triple in the fifth as the Astros scored three to make it 11-0.

For the Rays, Isaac Paredes and Wander Franco showed up. Paredes was notably the author of two home runs and produced three of his four points.
