Prior to Honduras’ match against Haiti this Sunday for the third day of the 2023 Gold Cup, Concacaf issued a statement confirming the punishment imposed on Rubilio Castillo for his clash in the duel against Qatar.
The Catracho forward saw the red card after a dispute between the two teams when the Bicolor managed to equalize the score on the hour thanks to a goal from Alberth Elis.
Concacaf, after evaluating everything that happened at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona, decided to sanction Rubilio with a total of three games.
It treats of a new resolution on the part of the organizing entity, since ‘Rubigol’ would be sanctioned with only one meeting, but now the Disciplinary Committee has granted two more games of sanction.
Thus, Castillo will miss tonight’s duel against the Haitians in Charlotte, which will be key because the Bicolor is at stake for qualifying. The forward will also be low in a hypothetical quarterfinal match.
It is worth mentioning that the same punishment was received by Yusuf Abdurisag, a Qatar attacker for his fight with the Honduran.
CONCACAF STATEMENT ON THE PENALTY OF RUBILIO CASTILLO
“The Concacaf Disciplinary Committee has suspended Rubilio Castillo (Honduras) and Yusuf Abdurisag (Qatar) following violent conduct by the players that took place after their Gold Cup 2023 group stage match in Glendale, AZ, on June 29.
After evaluating the evidence gathered during its investigation and based on the Gold Cup Regulations and the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the Committee has imposed the following suspensions (in addition to the automatic one-match suspension):
Rubilio Castillo, Honduras – two game suspension (three games total).
Yusuf Abdurisag, Qatar – two game suspension (three games in total).
These suspensions must be served in national team competitions.”
