Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Receives Donations for Student Athletes after Unfortunate Accident

[미디어타임즈=이기현 기자] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 10th that it had received 14,425,700 won in donations for student athletes who suffered unfortunate accidents from the ‘Gwangju Metropolitan City Badminton Association’ at the Superintendent’s Office on the 7th.

This Badminton Association sponsored relay was made with the cooperation of each old Badminton Association, club members, and leaders. From the Gwangsan-gu Office Janggi Competition in May to the Gwangju Mayor’s Cup Women’s Division Competition in June, donation boxes were installed at each venue to launch a sponsorship campaign.

Badminton student players from an elementary school in Gwangju suffered a traffic accident due to the negligence of an opponent’s vehicle while moving to their lodgings after a game in April. He was participating in the Korea Badminton Association long-term national badminton competition held in Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Gwangju Metropolitan City Badminton Association Chairman Hong Seong-gil said, “We held a donation sponsorship relay to comfort and encourage student athletes and leaders who were injured in an unfortunate accident.”

Meanwhile, the city education office also provided psychological treatment and supplementary classes so that the student-athletes could overcome their injuries and pursue their dreams. In addition, by seeking cooperation from the Sports Science Research Institute of the Gwangju City Sports Association, rehabilitation treatment for returning to training is also being supported.

Superintendent Lee Jung-sun said, “I express my deep gratitude to Gwangju badminton players, including Chairman Hong Seong-gil, who raised money. We will deliver this interest and warm hearted donation to the school, and we will continue to work hard to operate a safe school sports team.”
