The goalkeeper is accused of injuring an Austrian in the course of a dispute. “Marius Gersbeck left the training camp yesterday. Sporting management and management will now evaluate the situation internally, taking into account the ongoing investigations,” Hertha announced at the beginning of the week.
“Verbal argument escalated”
Gersbeck is said to have had an argument with another guest in a restaurant on Saturday evening. The dispute is said to have continued on a street early Sunday morning. The Salzburg-based police department confirmed that “a 28-year-old German and a 22-year-old local got into an argument on a street in the town of Zell am See in the early hours of the morning”.
“This verbal argument then escalated into a physical altercation, during which the 28-year-old injured the 22-year-old indefinitely on the body.” According to the police, witnesses then notified the emergency services, and the 22-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital . It is unclear what the dispute was about.
Once part of the fan scene
Gersbeck switched from Karlsruher SC to Hertha BSC just a few weeks ago. With his return, those responsible hoped to get closer to their own audience. Gersbeck already played for Hertha during his youth and not only supported the club on the pitch, but also from the stands.
