64:75 (16:15, 9:16, 16:25, 23:19) – in the end, Israel’s talents in the quarter-finals of the U-20 European Championship in Heraklion (Greece) were too strong for the young Germans. Even an increase at the end of the game didn’t help anymore, now the DBB players coached by national coach Alan Ibrahimagic are playing for fifth place in the continental tournament – first on Saturday against Belgium or Lithuania.

Too many turnovers

The German game this Thursday was too flawed. Only 35.5 percent hit rate from the field and 25 ball losses underline this.

Sananda Fru from Braunschweig with ten points and twelve rebounds, Maximilian Langenfeld (Ulm, 10) and Benjamin Schröder (George Washington University, 15/8) were the most accurate DBB players.

Ibrahimagic: “We were paralyzed at times”

Ibrahimagic is quoted as saying about the defeat on the association’s website: “Today the Israelis managed to take a lot of our energy and passion away from us with their defense. You have to acknowledge that, we were paralyzed at times. I think we already have the game in the handed over in the second quarter.” It was “still okay” defensively, but not much went together offensively. “A total of 25 turnovers says something. After the break, we worried too much about wasted chances. Nevertheless, the lads never gave up and there were one or two situations in which the game could have gone haywire,” said the coach, who now wants to show “two good games” with his team in the placement round.
