Alexander Zverev meets Slovakian Alex Molcan in Hamburg at the start

The tableaus for the men’s and women’s competitions at the Hamburg European Open are fixed. On Saturday afternoon, the opening opponents were announced for both the international top stars and the local representatives. For the most part, there are quite feasible tasks for the German starters, only Yannick Hanfmann and Eva Lys have to unpack their best tennis right at the beginning in order to succeed.

First of all, a look at the ATP World Tour 500 event: top favorite Casper Ruud (Norway) meets the clay court specialist Sebastian Baez from Argentina at the start, and Miomir Kecmanovic from Serbia, who was eighth in the tournament, could be the first seeded opponent to wait in the quarterfinals. Russia number two Andrey Rublev takes on Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles. In the event of a victory, the Kempener Daniel Altmaier could wait, who first has to get rid of the French old master Richard Gasquet.

German duels for men and women

Local hero Alexander Zverev, ranked fourth, starts against Slovakian Alex Molcan in order to meet the winner of the local wildcard duellists Maximilian Marterer and Rudolf Molleker in a possible round of 16. Also represented in the Hanseatic city, as mentioned above, is Yannick Hanfmann, who is allowed to measure his strength against number five Francisco Cerundolo (Argentina) right from the start.

Five DTB players are at the start of the WTA Tour 250 tournament: Eva Lys, who drew the most difficult start on paper with the second-seeded Egyptian Mayar Sherif, was hit hard. The other first-round duels with German participation: Noma Noha Akugue (WC) – Laura Pigossi (Brazil), Ella Seidel (wildcard) – Jule Niemeier, Tamara Korpatsch – Maria Carle (Argentina). The Croatian Donna Vekic is top seeded.

Interesting for Austrian tennis fans: Julia Grabher from Vorarlberg, ranked fifth, calls for a qualifier in the first step. If the worst comes to the worst, this could even be called Sinja Kraus, who won her first game in the preliminary round against Julia Middendorf.

Don’t forget: ServusTV will be broadcasting live from Hamburg from Monday.
