From MMA Fighter to Coach: Christophe Dafreville’s Journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

So it’s with Brazilian jiu-jitsu, because “very complementary to his judoka activity”, that he will begin this reconversion. In total, he will carry out about twenty fights which will have allowed him to travel around the world, in particular in Japan where the fervor of the public is incomparable.

“The logical next step was to pass on my knowledge, my experience. So I became a coach”, he explains simply. For two years, he has been one of the coaches of the French amateur MMA team.

For his first major international competition at the head of the team, three of his students became European champions. The team will make two podiums at the following world championships. What to see further.

The Olympic dream is still present

“I think this sport can become Olympic. I think the 3 x 3 minute format is ideal. There is not a lot of blood. The rules are adapted. There are still protections, fewer injuries and c “is very televisual. The goal of the game is that this practice becomes a practice for everyone and not just a high-level show”he hopes.

Of course, Christophe Dafreville intends to develop MMA, where it all started for him. “I am a pure Reunionese and it is obvious that I want to give back everything that was given to me. I want to share this with my brothers, my friends who stayed there. 10 years ago, I already came to give very technical courses in Reunion. It is in the continuity of what I have always wanted to convey to the people of Reunion”.
