French Men’s Table Tennis Team Wins Bronze at European Games, Ladies Finish Fourth

This morning in Krakow, the French women’s and men’s teams both played against Portugal in their match for third place. If the ladies finished fourth in the European Games, the gentlemen obtained a new medal.

Bronze for Alexis, Can, Félix and Simon

Beaten on the wire the day before by Sweden (2-3) in the semi-finals of these European Games, the French men’s team finally won bronze in Krakow. Against Portugal, the French had to work hard to win. Twice, Félix Lebrun brought his team level thanks to his victories against Joao Geraldo (3-0) and… Marcos Freitas (3-1). Before that, the pair Simon Gauzy / Alexis Lebrun had been dominated by their Portuguese counterparts 0-3) and Alexis Lebrun had not been able to get the upper hand on Tiago Apolonia (1-3). It was finally Simon Gauzy, in match 5, who brought the third and last point synonymous with victory for our Blues by dominating Joao Geraldo in three sets (3-0). The French team will therefore climb on the third step of the podium this evening and leave Poland with three medals after the two obtained in singles by Félix Lebrun (gold) and Alexis Lebrun (bronze).

Fourth place for the ladies

Among the ladies, against this same team from Portugal, the fight was intense but did not turn in the right direction. In the first meeting, Camille Lutz and Prithika Pavade were defeated by the Pinto / YU pair in four sets (1-3). Jianan Yuan was then surprised by Jieni SHAO who won after the fifth round (2-3). Finally, Prithika Pavade resisted well against Fu YU but lost 3-1 in a match that was once again played on small details. The French finish at the foot of the podium.
