“I was insulted, threatened and spat on on the country road with the words: Don’t look so stupid, it would be better if you died,” says Köllerer. During his playing days, he often drew attention to himself through provocations. “I was a total asshole on the pitch. I’m sorry for that. I regret not having treated the ball children and line judges the way I would like my daughter to be treated,” says Welser today. “I would work on the mental sooner. Not because others want, demand or expect it from me, but because I want it.”
