Former Arizona Cardinals Head Coach Vince Tobin Dies at 79, Remembered for Ending Playoff Drought

With Tobin as head coach, the Cardinals earned their first postseason victory since 1947 in the 1998 playoffs.

Former head coach of the Arizona CardinalsVince Tobin, who helped the franchise end a playoff drought of more than 50 years, died Monday. He was 79 years old.

The cause of death was not immediately released.

Tobin led the Cardinals to a playoff berth in 1998 and a 20-7 upset win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round. It was the first postseason win for the Cardinals since 1947, when the organization, still based in Chicagowill defeat the Philadelphia Eagles by 28-21 in the NFL Championship Game.
