The plane carrying the Argentine attacker crashed into the sea four years ago in January on the way to a new place of work. Cardiff refused to pay after the accident, saying the transfer had not been completed, but FIFA ordered them to pay the first installment of around six million euros.
The Welsh side subsequently failed to appeal to CAS and sued Nantes in May over the French club’s alleged fault in Sal’s accident. Now, however, he was ordered to pay the remaining 11 million in two installments.

Cardiff objected, pointing out that Nantes boss Franck Kita had been detained in France on suspicion of tax evasion and money laundering. The Welsh side said FIFA should have waited until the conclusion of the police investigation to make a decision.
