MADRID (Spain) – FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis has expressed his pride and excitement after unveiling an innovative technology-enhanced glass floor at the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2023.

Presented for the first time in an official FIBA competition, the state-of-the-art LumiFlex court, supplied by ASB GlassFloor, is a fully video floor that allows for interactive applications.

After presenting the court ahead of the first quarterfinal match in Madrid, Zagklis stated: “This is a historic day for FIBA and also a memorable one for the players here in Madrid, who have the chance to compete on this amazing and innovative surface.”

“There has been a lot of anticipation leading up to this moment and to finally be able to open this glass floor court is really exciting. It’s also fitting that the first games to be played on it will be the four quarter-finals of the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup.”

He added: “With this successful world premiere of the LED glass floor, we have another example of how we are delivering on one of our strategic priorities of ‘Extending the FIBA Family’ by supporting and fostering innovation in basketball. This is at the heart of what we do and at the center of our continued desire to make our sport even more attractive to players and fans.”

The LED glass floor can also offer the ability to add player tracking to the video floor, making it possible to display live stats and sporting achievements on the floor, providing fans with greater interaction and better engagement, as well as enhanced show staging with additional options for sponsorship and marketing.
