FC Bayern Munich have signed Min-jae Kim as their third signing this summer. The South Korean national defender comes from SSC Napoli and has signed with the German record champions until June 30, 2028. “Min-jae Kim has made a great development, recently won the Italian championship with SSC Napoli and was voted the best defender in Serie A . He impresses with his physical presence as well as with his mentality and speed,” said CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen according to a statement from Tuesday.
The 26-year-old Kim is reportedly coming for a fixed fee of €50m. He is to replace Frenchman Lucas Hernández, who has moved to Paris Saint-Germain, in Munich’s central defence. The newcomer is considered an uncompromising duel with a strong header. The 1.90 meter tall defender has been nicknamed “Monster” since his youth.
Kim “Defender of the Season” in Serie A
Kim has made a brilliant rise in recent years. In the summer of 2021, he moved from BJ Guoan (China) to Fenerbahce Istanbul for three million. A year later, the jump to SSC Naples followed. In Italy, Kim has become a regular at the current champions, most recently winning Serie A ‘Defender of the Season’ and being voted into ‘Team of the Year’. Jersey number three will appear in Munich.
“FC Bayern is every footballer’s dream. I’m really looking forward to everything that awaits me in Munich. For me it means a new beginning, I will continue to develop here,” said the professional. Munich had massively intensified their efforts for the South Korean in the past few weeks. Kim was considered the absolute dream player by coach Thomas Tuchel.

Kim is the Bundesliga club’s third new signing after Konrad Laimer and Raphaël Guerreiro. Munich continue to work on a possible signing of Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. Manchester City’s Kyle Walker is also in talks.
