The FC Bayern pros are meeting this Thursday for the obligatory medical checks, but according to SZ information, the first decisions in a neuralgic position were made before the official start of training. So it was agreed internally that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, 37, would not go on the club’s trip to Asia (July 24 – August 3). While rumors of a possible setback have turned out to be exaggerated, officials have come to the conclusion that Neuer needs more time after breaking his lower leg in December. It makes no sense to let Neuer travel with the team to Japan and from Japan to Singapore to do individual training there, which could be done much better on Säbener Straße at home, they say. The plan now is to take the goalkeeper “partially integrated” into team training after the trip to Asia – which makes a deployment at the start of the Bundesliga at Werder Bremen (18 August) not very likely.
