Fary Takes Over the Legendary Roland-Garros Stadium for a Stand-up Show

Fary was playing at home. This Friday evening, the 32-year-old comedian decided to take over the legendary Roland-Garros stadium. One more string to his racket and a furious career that sounds like a challenge. The Francilien, who already filled the Accor Arena in Bercy in 2019 with his show “Hexagone”, or the Cirque d’hiver with “Fary is the new black”, took up a new crazy bet. Playing on the central court of Roland-Garros in front of some 15,000 people? A first in a place that had only hosted concerts until now, including that of a certain Yannick Noah, on the sidelines of sporting events. A snub also for those who, although having grown up in the 94, a few kilometers from the stadium, saw Roland-Garros as “a somewhat inaccessible place”.

“It’s a place as original as it is mythical, and everyone knows it,” warned the artist who is presenting his new show “Love me if you can” for the occasion, a stand-up show that will leave in tour throughout France, from the start of the school year. In this “cauldron”, he suffered some technical difficulties.

An artistic and scenographic feat

“This show is an artistic but also a scenographic feat, because this stadium was never designed to host a show. We had to find a way for each spectator, no matter where they were seated, to have the same experience, with the same closeness to Fary, explains Julien Mairesse, his scenographer. And all this, without seeing any technical element so that it is as beautiful and as refined as possible. »

A few days after “Quai 54”, a major basketball and hip-hop culture festival presented at the same place, dozens of people close to comedy made the trip: the singer Tayc, who will take the stage at the end of the show, rapper Black M and his wife Léa Djadja, Caesarized actor Jean-Pascal Zadi, model Tina Kunakey accompanied by rapper Lous and the Yakusa and a host of guests “stylish like Fary”, straight out of “Fashion Week »…

On a stage in the shape of a pyramid

Visually, the device imposes. A microphone sits elegantly on a pyramid-shaped stage in the middle of the orange-colored clay court, surrounded by a few seats in the pit. On the sides of the platform, four giant screens broadcast close-ups of the artists. For the occasion, the enclosure was covered with the removable roof, raising the temperature at the end of the scorching Parisian day.

After two first games, the stand-upper Fadily Camara finishes heating up the stadium by recounting her daily life after “7 years of marriage” with her husband and colleague Hakim Jemili. A good atmosphere, however disturbed by sound problems. Because no one among the public laughs on the 3rd floor of the Lacoste tribune. The words collide. “It’s tiring, you’ll have to concentrate,” slips a spectator trying to change places. Some go down to sit on the stairs.

When Fary arrives on stage, a little after 10 p.m., the comedian takes advantage of the moment, all in the second degree. “Now that I’ve done this evening, I’m afraid of getting too fired up. I feel that my team can tell me why you are not going to play in a lavender field like Jacquemus for his parades, ”he slips in front of an audience who want more.

“The riots… I felt concerned”

The one who had marked the spirits at the Molière ceremony by challenging the room with a daring “hello white people” cannot refrain from bouncing on the news. “The riots, I cannot condemn 100%, I felt concerned, but beware, tonight is the biggest show of my career, so I was with them… Until Thursday evening”, he laughs. While he is well launched, a microphone cut surprises him at 10:13 p.m., but he continues, visibly annoyed but concentrated.

The first peals of laughter rise loudly in the sky when he recounts in detail his Parisian district, Strasbourg Saint-Denis. A few minutes later, he swings a valve in the form of a service winner, nailing one of his technicians in charge of the light. “Do you see that beam that’s not on me at all? he asks the audience. Before adding: “That’s it, it’s finally on me. It is in your interest to have a good account at the Pôle Emploi! »

He then unfolds his show, evoking couple relationships, the red thread of a show in which he reveals himself as rarely. “I try to stay in a relationship, I love you my darling”, he warns in the direction of his girlfriend in the room… But the declaration of love is quickly amended. “When she says to me: Ah, I’m not enough for you, I answer her: Of course, even my mother who breastfed me, after a while, I got tired of it. “Evoking his infidelity in his past relationships, the comedian turns to his clan. “My father is in the room, I wanted to dedicate this passage to him! »

An hour and a half of stand-up, ended in style with an impeccable mini concert by Tayc, another seducer. Before other evenings of the genre at Roland-Garros?
