Dominican Olympic Committee Suspends Badminton, Fencing, Modern Pentathlon, and Surfing Federations

The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) suspended the Badminton, Fencing, Modern Pentathlon and Surfing federations for at least 90 days due to the internal crises that have come out of its four walls.

With the exception of Pentathlon, which did not receive the letter because its office was closed yesterday, the other three federations were informed of the decisions made by the body chaired by Garibaldy Bautista.

“The four have their affiliation suspended. If they resolve in 90, they will be enabled, otherwise time will continue until they correct their situations,” Bautista declared.

He announced that in the next few days a commission will be appointed to manage these four entities administratively.

In the letter sent to the Dominican Badminton Federation, signed by Bautista and the general secretary of the COD, Luis Chanlatte, the resolution states that “The affiliation of the Federation is suspended for a period of 90 days, from the date, for the institutional crisis resulting from the complaints made by the associations of Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, El Seibo, Bayaguana, Espaillat and the National District, based on the provisions of articles 21.6, section C, 2.7 and 57 of the statutes of the Dominican Olympic Committee, as well as what is established in Law 122/5, a norm that governs non-profit organizations”.

Immediately afterwards, it warns you that this decision may be extended if the causes that have generated the administrative action do not cease within the period granted.

In similar terms, it refers to the Fencing Federation, chaired by Luis Ciprián, which also highlights the institutional crisis that affects it due to alleged irregularities denounced by different associates and due to legal actions that are seized by judicial authorities.

clear accounts

The head of the COD declared that he is very interested in transparency in the use and management of resources and therefore agrees with the audit that the Comptroller General of the Republic will carry out on the accounts of that body during the period between period from September 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022.

It will cover four months of the last year of the management of Luis Mejía Oviedo (2020) at the head of the Olympic Committee and the two months of Antonio –Colin– Acosta (2021 and 2022), who took over from him in the two following years of shared quadrennium “We are very committed to transparency and good management,” said engineer Bautista.
