You can already get an excellent look at what’s in store for Dave the Diver on the game’s official Steam website. You take on the role of Dave, hired to catch exotic fish from the Blue Hole. This is a mysterious ecosystem that is home to aquatic species from around the world. Dave’s job consists of two concrete things: he has to catch it for a sushi restaurant and serve it to customers, and in return he can eat for free. At first this seems like a very good deal, but what is clear is that as the game progresses, customer demands become more and more wacky and the demands keep increasing. You’re always going back and forth between deep sea dives and adding new dishes to your sushi restaurant.
Thanks to your smartphone, you can check your equipment, your menu and your weapons. Weapons? Well, in Dave the Diver you have to kill fish, and that’s not done by snuggling to death. What seems a little brutal at first (but hey, it’s reality) gets lost over time, and at the latest when you have to hunt sharks and giant squid, you’ll be happy to have a little firepower on your side. Quiet underwater scenes are few and far between, in most cases you have to watch your oxygen balance in order not to end your dive with a black screen. Because then you’re only allowed to take one piece of inventory upstairs before moving on to the next sushi restaurant task… what do you think of such an interesting mix of genres, is that something for you or do you leave it to others?
