DFB initially wants to save 15 million euros

The German Football Association has to save. The DFB Presidium and the committees of DFB GmbH & Co. KG therefore decided at a closed meeting to take measures to reduce the structural deficit totaling 15 million euros. The association announced this on Tuesday.

The committees have largely followed the suggestions of ten internal working groups, which had identified savings and revenue potential for the DFB in the past few months. The DFB did not say in which areas it would actually save. The measures would noticeably reduce the association’s structural deficit from the current annual figure of 19.5 million euros to 4.5 million euros.

In the coming months, the DFB will discuss and decide on further measures to completely eliminate the structural deficit. The association had recently come under additional financial pressure due to legal disputes and the lack of success of the national team.

“We have embarked on a consistent path of budget consolidation, on which we have responsibly and farsightedly adjusted the existing budgets and other plans,” explained DFB Treasurer Stephan Grunwald. “An important interim goal has been reached, which sends the signal that we are able to generate the funds to completely overcome the structural deficit on our own.”

According to the DFB, the 21 state associations are not affected by the cuts. “On the contrary: amateur football will even be able to increase its subsidies thanks to the new basic contract agreed with the DFL,” assured Grunwald.
