WHAT HAPPENED? Arsenal finally completed the recruitment of Declan Rice when they announced the arrival of the player on Saturday (15/7). Right after completing his move, Rice revealed he is a huge admirer of Mikel Arteta and the Spaniard’s presence in the Arsenal dressing room was one of the main reasons why he decided to join the north London club.

WHAT THEY SAID: Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Rice said: “I’m really pleased – he (Mikel Arteta) is speaking for himself. You see how he works – you get real insight into how he works on the Amazon documentary, how he works with his players and not only as a coach, but psychologically how good he is with the players, how he improves the players. He was a massive factor in why I came here.”

“I know he will bring the best out of me. I know that I still have to improve my level of play, and I feel that he is the manager who will take me to the next level. I am very happy to be working with him.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: The Gunners paid £105 million ($137 million) for the midfielder, making him the most expensive signing in the club’s history. He is also the most expensive British transfer of all time, breaking Jack Grealish’s record fee of £100 million.
