Dak Prescott and Brandin Cooks Forge Explosive Chemistry Ahead of 2023 Training Camp

OXNARD, Calif. — Dak Prescott and Brandin Cooks may or may not be big fans of traditional science, but one thing is for sure, and that is that their chemistry is excellent. The two began training together following the Cooks acquisition in the spring, expanding rapidly in the final months before the 2023 training camp.

And with two practices in Oxnard now under their belt, and many more to come, Prescott hints that the duo are not only where they belong as a quarterback/receiver combination, but that they’re ahead of the game at this point.

That’s due in large part to the extra work and bonding they’ve done outside the building in Frisco, including training sessions at D4KYARD (the soccer field in Dak’s backyard) and a retreat to Georgia with the other quarterbacks and receivers.

“He’s great,” Prescott said of his chemistry with Cooks. “That’s his credit. I don’t want to give myself too much credit. That’s a guy who’s a true pro. That’s a guy you can look at his resume throughout this league, look at his numbers, and honestly, you see the way in which it is prepared and the way in which it takes care of its body.

“The way he approaches the game, you can see he came in playing with some of the best quarterbacks and some of the best coaches in this league. He’s been trained the right way, and going into his 10th year, he’s vital to the success of our team.

And, all things considered, it’s also about Cooks’ ability to guide younger receivers, like the instant turnaround you see in Jalen Tolbert — something that’s just as invaluable as his physical skill set.

“What he’ll be able to add in his stats and his game, but also his leadership, I can tell you guys like CeeDee [Lamb] and Michael Gallup are grateful for that,” added Prescott. “He’s an amazing guy who allows our chemistry to grow.”

Needless to say, the feeling is very mutual.

“He works, we’re cut from the same cloth,” Cooks said of what impresses him most about the Walter Payton 2022 Man of the Year. “All we know is to work and continue to hone our craft, be hard on ourselves and try to improve every day”.

The two picked up right where they left off in minicamp when Prescott connected with Cooks for a deep touchdown pass on Day 2 of training camp, and all signs point to an explosive connection expected to combine with Lamb and Gallup to take the Cowboys offense/passing attack back to a once-familiar level of lethality.

It all starts with chemistry, and that’s just science.
