The Dacia car company built its business on technically simple and affordable cars. In recent years, however, it has expanded its portfolio considerably – it offered the first electric car or station wagon with a hybrid drive. The new product that the brand launched into the world today, but probably few expected.
Dacia has officially confirmed its entry into demanding rally competitions, the highlight of which will be participation in the legendary Dakar Rally in 2025! To make matters worse, none other than nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb will sit behind the wheel of the upcoming special.
The seasoned French driver has 80 victories in the WRC category and his experience will surely come in handy for the Dacia brand. He has been part of the Dakar program since 2016, and since 2021 he has participated in the race with the Bahrain Raid Xtreme Hunter team, whose special was designed and implemented by Prodrive.
Loeb will be joined by rider Cristina Gutiérrez Herrero in the Dacia line-up. In 2017, she became the first Spanish racer to complete the Dakar Rally. And two years ago, as only the second woman, she won one of the stages.

In order not to be alone, Dacia teamed up with the renowned British engineering company Prodrive to create a T1+ category special. The racing car will be powered by synthetic fuels from Aramco, and as part of the preparations for the Dakar, it does not intend to delay its first runs. As early as next year, the crew will appear at the start of the Moroccan rally. A year later, in one of the main categories of the Dakar, it will compete with machines such as Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger Raptor.
“The Dakar will not only be a test of Dacia’s robustness, but it is also a demonstration of our commitment to achieving low-carbon mobility. We are very happy to be able to participate in the Dakar with synthetic fuel technology,” said the head of the brand, Denis Le Vot, about the unexpected announcement.
