Cleveland Guardians Trade Aaron Civale to Tampa Bay Rays for Prospect Kyle Manzardo

CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Guardians traded starting pitcher Aaron Civale to the Tampa Bay Rays for first baseman prospect Kyle Manzardo on Monday.

The Guardians announced the swap on social media, a day before the swap deadline.

Civale’s name had been embroiled in swap talks for weeks, which coincided with the right-hander’s best moments for several seasons.

Civale had a 1.45 ERA in six starts in July.

On Sunday, Civale gave up no runs in six innings of work to guide the Guardians to victory over the Chicago White Sox. He improved his record to 5-2.

This exchange is a bit surprising from the point of view of the Guardians, who are only half a game behind for the first place in the American Central section. They’re also struggling with injuries to a number of pitchers, including ace Shane Bieber.
