Chicago Bulls Star Lonzo Ball Faces Career-Ending Knee Problems and Surgeries

Chicago Bulls basketball star Lonzo Ball continues to struggle with knee problems and surgery. In the worst case, he could even face the end of his career.

“In the offseason, we assume he won’t come back next season,” said Bulls vice president Arturas Karnišovas. “He will continue his recovery. If he comes back that would be great. But we will prepare for the fact that he will not come back this offseason and prepare for the season.”

Lonzo Ball: Knee problems and surgeries are piling up

Ball, 25, underwent a left knee cartilage transplant in March, his third surgery since Jan. 14, 2022. Ball missed the entire NBA season and could miss next season due to ongoing problems in his knee. However, it is believed that this latest operation offers him the best chance of continuing his NBA career.

Ball underwent first surgery for a torn meniscus in February 2022 but continued to struggle with ongoing pain and discomfort and has now had to undergo two more surgeries to ease the pain. He has recently started walking without crutches during his recovery. “I know that someday we will see him on a basketball court, but I don’t think he will be back next year,” Karnišovas added.

Ball, who signed a four-year, $80 million contract with the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 2021, has averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 assists and 5.7 rebounds over his career with the Lakers, Pelicans and Bulls.
