Carlos Alcaraz Dominates in Wimbledon Semi-Final, Sets sight on Djokovic in Final

A true demonstration of power: In the second Wimbledon semi-final of the day, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (20) defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev (27) in three sets (6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 3). There was no real tension.

Alcaraz needed less than two hours on Friday evening (July 14, 2023) to show Medvedev the limits. For Alcaraz it is the second entry into a Grand Slam final.

Carlos Alcaraz is in the Wimbledon final

“It’s a dream for me,” said Alcaraz after the match against Medvedev: “I can’t believe it. I’m enjoying the moment. And it’s time to keep dreaming.”

Although his victory was never in jeopardy, the 20-year-old Spaniard praised his opponent Medvedev: “Daniil didn’t want to lose, he fought to the last ball.”

“I had to play aggressively, be myself. That was the key to winning the match,” Alcaraz summed up.

For the upcoming Wimledon final against Djokovic on Sunday (July 16), Alcaraz promised: “It’s a final and there’s no time to be afraid. I will give my all!”

Alcaraz is only the third Spaniard after Manuel Orantes (74, winner 1966) and Rafael Nadal (37, winner 2008 and 2019) to compete in a Wimbledon final.

Novak Djokovic meets Carlos Alcaraz in the final

The first to move into the final on a completely rainy Friday under the roof of Center Court was world number two Novak Djokovic (36). He defeated the Italian Jannik Sinner 6: 3, 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4).

For Djokovic it is already the 35th final in one of the four most important tournaments. Nobody else reached a Grand Slam final that often.
