The Canadian women’s 3×3 basketball team of Kacie Bosch, Paige Crozon, Katherine Plouffe and Michelle Plouffe claimed the title of the FIBA Women’s 3×3 Series tournament in Edmonton on Sunday.
The first seed of the tournament, the Canadians were opposed in the final to the team of China, the second seed of the tournament. Both teams started the match with a lot of intensity, while limiting the number of fouls committed. After five minutes of play, the score was 6-6. Michelle Plouffe was named her team’s most valuable player of the tournament.
The Canadians currently sit fifth in the overall league standings in 2023. They claimed the FIBA Women’s 3×3 Series Final title in 2022.
In the semi-finals, the Canadians defeated the Americans 18-10. Canada held a 10-5 lead after five minutes. With 2:24 left in the game, the Canadians reached the ten-foul mark, giving their opponents two free throws for each new foul committed. . However, the Americans only took advantage of this advantage once, with the Canadians not being awarded any more fouls thereafter. The Canadian quartet dominated the remainder of the contest to clinch the place in the final.
The Canadian team started Sunday by easily beating Chile 22-9 in the quarter-finals.
On Saturday, Canada won both its group stage matches, winning 22-10 against Poland and then 16-8 against Japan.
This is the second title for the Canadians in the FIBA Women’s 3×3 Series this season. They had won the stage presented in Poitiers, France, on June 28.
The Canadian team will take part in the FIBA Women’s 3×3 Series stop which will take place in Prague on August 4-5. It will then be possible to see the Canadians in action at home during the stopover in Quebec on August 18 and 19.
