The preschool children of the evangelical day-care center at the bell tower were very excited: Not only their trainer, Helga Minning, was there for the last fifteen minutes of their weekly judo training, but also Stefan Grathwohl, the club manager of the Brühl branch of the Kreissparkasse Köln.
Grathwohl convinced himself of the children’s skills and watched them practice rolls, throws and falling correctly, and then handed over a check to support the judo project in the amount of 1,000 euros.
The KiTa and the associated association are very happy that this support has finally made it possible to offer judo for preschool children in the KiTa again since February. Due to Corona and a change of trainer, this long-standing, beautiful project has been on pause since 2020. With Helga Minning, a committed, new trainer was found, who clearly enjoys working with the children. In addition to the techniques, the children also learn fairness and clear rules from her, and games are not neglected. From August it will even be possible to offer two hours, because then seventeen preschool children want to train and fight. Inka Suchan, the deputy head of the KiTa, was also happy about this project: “It’s amazing what the children have already learned in this short time; they can rightly be proud of themselves”. After this successful start, the day-care center management and support association, together with Helga Minning, are now considering offering a first belt test for the children at the end of the next day-care center year in summer 2024.
